Partner & Family Therapy
Relationships are complicated simply by virtue of different people bringing different values, beliefs, and expectations about connection.
Getting therapy for your relationship doesn’t mean that something is wrong, it means you want to build a stronger foundation to better handle what life throws at you.
How can therapy help relationships?
Improving communication
93% of communication is non-verbal. When we focus communication only on the words we use, we are missing multiple aspects of how we connect with others. Of course we will discuss how to improve verbal communication in order to increase our ability to be heard and have those we love feel heard. We will also explore ways that we connect emotionally and through our actions.
Exploring mixed-neurotypes
Everyone’s brain is wired a little differently and this can really complicate connection.
I often work with couples who have different “flavors” of neurodivergence. One partner may be neurotypical while the other is ADHD, or one may be autistic and the other is AuDHD. This can cause everything from differences in sensory needs to differences in how the home and lives are managed, leading to conflict.
In these cases, education for each individual about their unique neurotype not only helps them to better understand themselves, but to find more helpful ways to communicate their needs to their partner.
Supporting loved ones navigating their mental health
With specialties in both eating disorders and neurodivergence, I often work with parents and partners who are looking to learn more about how to support their loved one. I offer a variety of support options from family therapy to one-off consultations, answering questions about everything from treatment options to support tools and resources.
In these circumstances, it’s common to feel a little lost, confused, helpless, and uncertain about what kind of help you may be looking for. This is where I can help.
