Emily Curley, MA, LMFT

I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist based in Orange County, California.

Born & raised in Massachusetts (go Pats!), I moved here in 2014 because I thought it would be more fun to do therapy surrounded by palm trees instead of snow. I was right.

I have been practicing therapy since 2017 and completed my Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy at Chapman University in 2019.

Since 2013, I have been working in various forms of treatment at all levels of care (outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, and residential) with patients seeking recovery from trauma, substance use disorders, eating disorders and disordered eating patterns. I have held every role ranging from a Support Staff to a Clinical Director.

Eating disorders and our relationships with food and our bodies have been a passion of mine for many years. I began learning about Intuitive Eating and Health At Every Size many years ago, spent a semester as a design intern for the Multi-Service Eating Disorder Association in Newton, MA, and the more I learned to unpack everything I thought I know about these relationships, the more I felt the drive to pass on that education.

Now, I have the pleasure of doing so through my therapy work, as well as providing consultation to other mental health professionals, and guest-lecturing in graduate programs about the complicated nature of eating disorders and how we treat them.

My Values

While therapists have historically been trained to keep their personal beliefs to themselves, we know now that therapy is indisputably political, especially when so oppressed identities are being blatantly targeted by our own government.

Only you can determine whether or not you feel safe in my presence and I aim to make that as easy to identify by making a few things known about me right off the bat.

In my therapy space, you are safe to ask (and receive a straight answer) about:

  1. Who I vote for.

  2. Where are I stand on different political issues.

  3. What kind of work or training I have done in regards to social justice, race, etc.

Values that I align my therapy work with:

  • Weight-inclusive & anti-diet culturel

  • Neurodivergent-affirming

  • Gender- and identity-affirming

  • Sex positive

  • Autonomy & harm-reduction

let’s work together!
